TruAlt Bioenergy Ltd has received financial assistance of ₹150 crore under the Centre’s PM JI-VAN Yojana for its commercial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project, providing a major boost to India’s efforts to develop low-carbon aviation fuels. The company said the funding will support the establishment of a SAF production facility and strengthen the country’s transition towards cleaner aviation energy solutions.
The project is part of TruAlt’s broader strategy to expand beyond ethanol production and become a key player in the emerging sustainable aviation fuel sector. The company has previously announced plans for large-scale SAF production facilities using ethanol-to-jet fuel technology, which converts bio-based ethanol into aviation-grade fuel capable of reducing lifecycle carbon emissions compared with conventional jet fuel. Industry experts view SAF as one of the most viable pathways for decarbonising commercial aviation in the coming decades.
The PM JI-VAN Yojana was launched by the Government of India to promote advanced biofuel projects through financial support and viability gap funding. TruAlt said the ₹150-crore assistance will improve project viability and accelerate implementation. The development comes as India seeks to build domestic SAF production capacity in line with global sustainability goals and growing airline demand for cleaner aviation fuels.
