Akasa air

Akasa Air is targeting capacity growth of around 30 per cent in FY27 and expects to maintain an annual expansion rate of 30-40 per cent over the next five years, underscoring its ambition to strengthen its position in India’s rapidly growing aviation market. Chief Financial Officer Ankur Goel said the airline added about 30 per cent capacity in FY26 and plans to continue expanding at a similar pace despite challenges such as geopolitical uncertainties, rising fuel costs and delays in aircraft deliveries. The airline currently operates a fleet of 39 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and remains confident that its long-term growth strategy remains firmly on track.

A key component of Akasa’s growth plan is the expansion of its international network. International operations currently account for about 25 per cent of the airline’s total capacity, but the carrier aims to raise that share to around 40 per cent over the next few years. Having established a presence in Gulf markets, Akasa plans to focus its next phase of overseas growth on destinations in Southeast Asia while continuing to build a broader international footprint. The airline believes that international routes will become an increasingly important contributor to its overall business as its fleet expands.

Akasa also reported strong operational performance in FY26, with operating revenue rising 37 per cent while capacity increased by 30 per cent. Goel said the airline has improved its financial position, narrowed losses and achieved EBITDA-positive performance during the second half of the fiscal year. Looking ahead, the carrier remains focused on scaling up operations and is working towards an initial public offering within the next two to three years. With a large aircraft order book and continued investor support, Akasa is positioning itself for sustained long-term growth in both domestic and international markets.
