SpiceJet has launched Spice Star Academy, a first of its kind initiative by any airline. Spice Star Academy offers a Bachelor of Business Administration degree recognised by UGC from Amity University. All students training under this programme will be offered a placement at SpiceJet.

SpiceJet is in the midst of a massive growth plan and is eyeing expansion of reach and operations on both domestic and international routes with the addition of 205 Boeing aircraft and 50 Bombardier Q400s. Under this growth plan, there would be an estimated demand for approximately 6000 crew members. The state-of-the art training center in Gurgaon is thus a massive step by SpiceJet to feed its own expansion programme whilst tapping into the rising industry demand for trained professionals.

The academy will facilitate skill development for potential and aspiring cabin crew members while also ultimately creating a resource pool of future leaders, thus opening up avenues in the aviation industry beyond cabin crew. The key USP of the initiative is that the students are able to earn while they learn as they get to intern with SpiceJet at the end of the successful completion of six month certification program for in-flight management. After the completion of the three year course, all students are offered a placement with SpiceJet entitled with all the terms and benefits of a full term employee with a starting salary of Rs eight lakh.

Under the programme open invitation will be extended to first year college students, and students appearing in for their 12th standard board exams. The selection of the students will be based on a screening criterion, whereby the qualifying candidates will then be enrolled for a three-year online degree course in Bachelors of Business Administration by Amity University.
