Aviation career: Airport Ground Handling
Airport ground handling is basically servicing of an aircraft when it is on the ground and that are parked at a terminal gate of an airport. Ground handling addresses service requirements of an airliner between the time it arrives at a terminal gate and the time it departs on its next flight. The work includes highly technical services such as maintenance, fuel and oil services and freight handling which are essential to passengers’ safety and comfort, such as passenger check-in, catering, baggage handling and surface transport at the airport.
Candidates need to have completed 10+2 or graduation from a recognized university. The duration of the training course depends on the institute but is usually around 6months.
Some of the essential qualities are people skills, technical and managerial skills, language proficiency, ability to adapt to new environment and weather, pleasing personality, decision making skills and so on.
The course may includes varied topics like Meteorology, Navigation, Air Regulations, Basic Flight Planning, Advance Flight Planning, En route chart, ATC, Aircraft Systems & Performance, Airport Operations, Aviation Security, and Dangerous Goods Regulation etc.
