‘Save my daughter’s future’

We are publishing as such, a letter we received yesterday.
Hope the authorities act quick
Editor

I am father of a trainee pilot at Yash Air  and I want to give some information because the future of my daughter is in danger.
We had taken admission at Yash Air, Ujjain & started flying in March 2010. She got licence SPL, FRTOL.
She cleared 3 theory papers & one RTR licence till now . And she has appeared for rest of the two papers. During this period she completed 47.50 hrs flying (up to January 2011).
In April 2011, Yash Air is closed because one of the Directors resigned as Chied Flying Instructor and flying stopped .
During our repeated contacts with Yash Air it promised in August, September and October that the school will open soon. In October 2011, myself, my daughter & 14 other trainee pilots visited the academy and asked to them to either re-open the school or refund us the money.
After much hot discussions, administrator told us that a court case was going on in Delhi High Court and DGCA was not appointing new CFI which they were proposing. They also promised and gave us written assurance that Yash Air would start functioning  after the final hearing on 16, November 2011. But till today Yash Air is not opened.
I am requesting you to help us to get the money back . We will also be thankful if you publish it as a news.
Save my daughter’s and 150 other trainee student’s future.

  1. This is what happens when a student starts his/her training in India. Everyone knows that flying schools abroad have more and better aircraft. A student can get his/her licenses within 6-8 months. Recently it has been found that 33 schools in India are not functioning properly and do not meet DGCA standards.
But, I wish to ask DGCA officials … Whenever a person who did his flying abroad visits DGCA , why is he/she treated like unwanted ? ? And, when asked, DGCA official tell us not to go abroad and take up flying in India . . To suffer like these students ?
Is this how DGCA is helping and guiding the students to fly ? What will be the future of aviation ?

  2. i can understand ur problem, i would suggest u to move court, im sure 100% they will hear ur problem and in my opinion to moving court is the only solution of this problem, they can proceed orders to recover ur & others money, take a legal advice frm a good lawyer.

COURT Option is always there, but not first . We will nigociate, try all levels if nothing is happens we can again come to you for help,
Mr. NITIN BARAPATE you are Sending promational maessages for your school , i am surprise, we want solution for money not quiting this school & joining your school, remember situations can come for any school, but problem is same for trainee pilot, you are giving wrong message to trainee pilots.

Going abroad is another bad option, you may be aware after spnding 18 lks in other country getting CPL , BACK HOME, YOU get only 6 moths time to clear 3 papers. if you do good, ok ,otherwise go back to country fly 15 hrs & come back ,again 6 monts time to clear paers.

PL WAIT & SEE ONLY FOR SHORT PERIOD

  10. Sir
I don’t think the legal system can give you justice soon enough. But if all the 150 trainees file complaints, i do think it’ll accelerate the process. I suggest you don’t wait for justice (ofcourse fight for it) and ask your daughter to clear the rest of her papers. She can also enroll for graduation, as I’m doing. Also keep logging hours whenever possible from elsewhere. This is not a solution to the problem but i think it’ll help.
To all the CPL holders waiting for an opportunity, keep faith, nothing comes in way for passionate people! I wish all and myself the very best..

  11. Thanks,Igrua passout pilot
your reply will help us to fight . my daughter is doing BSc
aviation ) from mumbai unversity 3 rd year is in progress. she is topper from iaas mumbai college, her so meny friends went to canada nither they got cpl yet ,nor they able to clear 2 year college in better position.
I beleave that any youngster wants to become pilot he /she must have courage to fight for situation, existing hurdle is also testing phase of her life. I am sure she will able to come out with flying colours.
    thanks once again

  12. Hi, I am an Ex Air Force pilot. I agree with the IGRUA passout. Do not give up on dreams. Sometimes it is hard and seems futile but resilence and patience would pay. I know U do not need booster lectures but solutions — simply, do not lose faith, get ur daughter to finish her papers, continue to fly when possible where ever possible just to keep continuity. hopefully Yash Air will come though with a CFI and flying would start. best wishes.

  13. Hi i am jayshree patil from mumbai. I want to ask every flying club owner why they are charge huge flying fees for single engine planes? Cessna 152 operational cost is 4600 and some flying club charge 8000 to 9000 per hr .and cessna 172 operational cost is 5300 and flying club charge to trainee pilot 8500 to 12000 Per hr . I want to ask specially Mr Nitin sir and Mr Kulakarni sir.

  14. Hi I am Capt Dipak Mahyavanshi(9368245108),
I understand your problem Legal process is very slow in India so better luck with that. @gaurav there is nothing wrong with Indian flying schools, i have done mine flying from Ambitions Aviation Academy, India and completed it within eight months apart from clearing papers. and i have seen many flying schools in USA declaring bankrupt and shutting down with more than 100 students getting stranded over there.
And getting a job though is difficult but still is not impossible If u are looking at it as a investment then please don’t consider aviation. U have to look it as a career and work hard towards it.
and @jayshree operations cost is not only deciding factor for fees there are many other factors and plus flying clubs are not trust to operate at minimum.
And for a person who wants to be in aviation will definitely get a job no matter what. Am working as a instructor with a flying club.
If u have any queries pls call:-9368245108

  15. flying is very unprofessional in India never do CPL in India and my advice is never get into field of aviation lot of lives have be ruined cos of this

  16. https://indianaviationnews.net/careers/2011/12/843-commercial-pilot-licences-issued-this-year-by-dgca.html

so must be around 10000 CPL pilots unemployed from 2006 when this boom started unless ur father or uncle is a minister or operation head do not get in this field not worth it, eg spice jet charges rs25000 just to give exams weather u pass or not money making racket just like flight schools in India and abroad according to me The Director of yash air needs to refund money with intrest tell him to sell his Mercedes S class and give the students the money seems like IN INDIA the money to be made is only through corruption

  17. to vpl
flying in India is not unprofessional, it is you who is unprofessional to talk something like this. i have done mine flying from India and i felt it was good i have more knowledge and better flying skills then the people coming for recency from other countries over here. if your life or career was ruined by doing flying in India that means you were wrong, and you were not serious enough that means you were unprofessional not them.

  18. to Mr kulkarni there is no proper awareness in india for avn field so most of the time students just divert from track.its gud to hear that ur daughter is topper she wl find her own way.but there r lacs of people sufering like so our indian system is far behind that we dont have solution .i went thru same phase as i was sc financialy not so strong but mentally was but today i m working wid nepal airlines.

  19. I personally feel that DGCA should also function as a regulatory body and resolve these issues. The commercial flying training in India is a weak field and reputation is further tarnished due to such incidences.DG Sri Bharat Bhushan has brought in some good changes recently. However, the students-pilots’ plight is not getting due attention at appropiate level.I hope DGCA officials read all this and render help to all those who have problem of nature which may further weaken the confidence of future entrants. This may be addressed at the earliest because this is the grass-root of flight safty.

  20. Dear Ms.Jayshree,
Answer for your question is here. You are calculating the direct operating cost of Cessna 152 that too is very old latest direct operating cost is more than around Rs.7000/ hour + flying club have to pay heavy charges of airport + salary of Chief flight instructor and many more.Charging Rs.8000 to 9000 for Cessna 152 is not wrong.

  21. Hi, I am working with the Sunday Guardian newspaper. I am doing a story on how Yashair has been victimized by DGCA. Shall be grateful if the affected trainee pilots can get in touch with me for the same.
    Thanks.

  22. Utterly frustrating … we have tried all possible means of communication except of court but all in vain.. I’m surprised with their courage.. Yash air has ensured my brothers future is spoilt after paying lacks of money my brother is working in a call center.. entire family looks at us as some outliers .. don’t know how to get our money back..

  23. My advice to you is to ask the school a written proof of your communication with the school in this regard; gather all relevant documents(quotations, student contract, course schedule, payment receipts,etc..) and take the matter to “consumer court”. The fee is really reasonable, the process is really quick, you don’t have to have a lawyer, if all your documents stands firm there then you will get your money back with interest and reasonable compensation for your time and inconvenience.

    GOOD LUCK!

  24. See the irony-. Yash raj tongia who duped hundreds of trainee pilots is now Director flying training at DGCA Delhi .
He was the one who along with his father Bharat tongia lured hundreds of trainees to join Yas h Air owned by the family at that time. They have now hired professionals to run the company and given them duty to misguide and handle the trainee pilots who were cheated by them.
Why can,t DGCA itself ask them regarding this matter?
    Ballu

  25. i can understand your problem sir. my opinion is let your daughter continue with her Bsc graduation and in between let her finish her CPL papers too. If she’s good in studies means she can find her own way by herself. Only you have to worry about the money you spent in YashAir. Fight for it with rest of the trainee pilots. And please keep faith upon GOD and hope for the best. Afterall life’s doesnt mean to earn money. DO GOOD DEEDS AND BELIEVE IN GOD. advice your daughter to maintain the professionalism and wait. Call will come soon.
I am also a Trainee Pilot in India still waiting to complete my flying hours. Life should go on with a good mind

  26. Verma enrolled in December 2009 at Yash Air, a flying school in the city of Indore, halfway between Mumbai and Delhi. On his first day, he said he was taken on a 35-minute “air-experience” flight to give him a feel of what it was like to be in a plane. Moments after the aircraft landed, he was handed a certificate of flying for 360 hours, he said in an interview on June 1. He said he was told he will do the actual flying later during the course, but that he eventually flew for just 3 hours at the school.
When Verma and other trainee pilots realized they weren’t going to gain the necessary flying experience, they complained to the school and Verma sued for return of the money he paid. The Allahabad High Court ordered that his fees be returned, according to a court order in February this year.
“Several discrepancies have been noticed with regard to over logging of flight details, flight authorization, maintenance of various log books and fuel consumption registers,” according to a DGCA enquiry into the complaints about Yash Air, dated June 6, 2014, a copy of which was given to Bloomberg News.
On May 19, 2010, a qualified pilot from Yash Air took a trainee pilot on a “joy ride” in a Cessna-152 and hit a power line, according to the DGCA’s final report into the accident. The two-seater, single-engined trainer crashed into a dry river bed, splitting into five pieces and killing the men. They were both about 20 years old, according to the report, dated Dec. 17, 2010.
The owner and chief trainer at the school, Yash Raj Tongia, was appointed as the DGCA’s director of flying and training in 2011, even though his flying skills were “below standard,” the June 2014 DGCA report said.
