Budget airline SpiceJet said it launched a three-year aviation course after which it will hire students to facilitate its expanding operations.

The course, in partnership with Amity University, offers a three-year bachelor of business management (BBA) degree, including a six-month certification program in in-flight management, the airline said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Indian air industry is growing at a frantic pace, creating a shortage of talent. SpiceJet said it is expanding operations with 205 Boeing aircraft and 50 Bombardier Q400s in the domestic and international markets, adding that 6,000 crew members will be required to facilitate the operations.

Students, who enroll in the programme, will get jobs with SpiceJet at a starting salary of Rs 8 lakh, the airline said.
