{"id":497,"date":"2008-01-23T07:44:00","date_gmt":"2008-01-23T07:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indianaviationnews.net\/avicareers\/?p=497"},"modified":"2008-01-23T07:44:00","modified_gmt":"2008-01-23T07:44:00","slug":"more-pilot-training-with-standby-instruments-urged-after-airbus-a319-power-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.indianaviationnews.net\/careers\/2008\/01\/more-pilot-training-with-standby-instruments-urged-after-airbus-a319-power-loss.html","title":{"rendered":"More pilot training with standby instruments urged after Airbus A319 power loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: rgb(255, 0, 0);font-size:180%;\" >I<\/span>nvestigators are recommending that pilots be trained more rigorously to fly with sole reference to standby instruments following a serious incident in which a British Airways Airbus A319 suffered an extensive loss of electrical power.<br \/>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaib.dft.gov.uk\/home\/index.cfm\">UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch<\/a> has also advised BA to review its reporting procedures after the inquiry team learned about the incident only six days later, the jet having remained in service in the meantime.<br \/>After a two-year investigation, the AAIB has been unable to determine the reason for<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaib.dft.gov.uk\/sites\/aaib\/publications\/special_bulletins\/s2_2005_airbus_a319_131__g_euob.cfm\"> the power loss<\/a>, which affected the jet&#8217;s left-hand electrical network, shortly after it departed London Heathrow for Budapest on 22 October 2005. But it suspects one of the generator control units detected a false electrical current differential-protection condition.<br \/>Failure of the network caused the loss of both pilots&#8217; primary flight and navigation displays, the upper electronic centralised aircraft monitor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flightsimworld.com\/gallery\/displayimage.php?pos=-7892\">(ECAM) display<\/a>, cockpit lighting, the radio and the intercom.
