{"id":2494,"date":"2020-01-14T22:15:09","date_gmt":"2020-01-14T22:15:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indianaviationnews.net\/careers\/?p=2494"},"modified":"2020-01-20T22:16:18","modified_gmt":"2020-01-20T22:16:18","slug":"govt-may-privatise-indira-gandhi-udan-academy-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.indianaviationnews.net\/careers\/2020\/01\/govt-may-privatise-indira-gandhi-udan-academy-soon.html","title":{"rendered":"Govt may privatise Indira Gandhi Udan Academy soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udan Academy (IGRUA), the pilot training institute that was the<br \/>\nbrainchild of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, will soon be in private hands with the<br \/>\nModi government deciding to privatise it.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The view is that the government should not be in this business of running a pilot training<br \/>\ninstitute and a decision has been taken to give it to private players for a period of 50<br \/>\nyears,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said a senior government official on condition of anonymity.<br \/>\nA cabinet note on this is being prepared and will be sent for approval soon, the official<br \/>\nadded.<br \/>\nThe move has the approval of the Prime Minister\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Office, people in the know said. The<br \/>\nPMO\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s view is that the government should \u00e2\u20ac\u0153facilitate private companies to start pilot<br \/>\ntraining institutes at airports and airstrips that are lying idle\u00e2\u20ac\u009d instead of operating those,<br \/>\nsaid one of them.<br \/>\nThe institute is located at Amethi, the constituency that Rajiv Gandhi, a former Indian<br \/>\nAirlines pilot, had represented in the Lok Sabha. His wife Sonia and son Rahul too had represented the constituency, which was<br \/>\nconsidered to be a Gandhi family bastion, before BJP\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Smriti Irani won it in 2019.<br \/>\nThe institute is making losses averaging around Rs 6 crore annually, and the government does not see any merit in funding its losses.<br \/>\nIGRUA, founded in 1985, is the largest pilot training institute in the country with over 150 students undergoing training at present and a<br \/>\nfleet of 24 planes.
