The Centre for Aviation (CAPA) say that they are not encouraged by trends on women in airline management.<\/p>\n
They declare in a recent report that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153aviation still has a long way to go in pilot gender equality.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
Not all countries and airlines publish the number of female pilots that they have, so it is difficult to arrive at accurate global figures.<\/p>\n
The proportion of airline female pilots in the United States and the United Kingdom is about 4 percent. CAPA say that while the figure is growing, it is only doing so \u00e2\u20ac\u0153very slowly.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
The International Society of Women Airline Pilots (ISWAP) collect information on numbers of female pilots in different airlines and release them in a public document on their website.<\/p>\n
The figures for July 2018 show that for 79 airlines worldwide, the number of female pilots is 7,468, which is 5.2 percent of the total.<\/p>\n
CAPA suggest that this is unlikely to reflect the real global average. They argue that since it is higher than the 4 percent for the U.S. and the U.K., there could be some \u00e2\u20ac\u0153self-selecting\u00e2\u20ac\u009d going on, implying that airlines with low ratios of female pilots will be less likely to volunteer that information.
