Kochi: Ernakulam central police have registered a cheating case against a city-based aviation academy for allegedly collecting huge amount as fees from students and failing to conduct classes.<\/p>\n
The case was registered after students of AHR Aviation Academy on Chittoor Road lodged a complaint with the police on Monday, alleging that the academy had not conducted classes after charging excessive amounts as fees.<\/p>\n
As per the complaint filed by nearly 30 first-year students, the academy reportedly collected a fee of Rs 2 lakh for the two-year course. They alleged that the institute was not conducting regular classes owing to the shortage of staff.<\/p>\n
“During admissions, they promised us placements with top aviation companies for a monthly salary of Rs 2 lakh. But the academy does not even have enough staff to teach us!” said a student.<\/p>\n
As per the complaint, the institute has collected Rs 1.50 lakh as fee for the one-year course and Rs 2 lakh for the two-year one. Girl students have complained that they were not provided proper food at the hostel even though they pay a monthly fee of Rs 3,500.<\/p>\n
“The food provided at the hostel is insipid. Those who questioned this were given a scolding by the woman in charge of the hostel. Also, one of the staff threatened us with a knife. The hostel does not have a warden at night,” the students alleged.
