Flying Club revival still a far cry

Guwahati: Notwithstanding the recent efforts directed towards reviving the Assam Flying Club, and assurances made to that effect by the State Government, the present status of the club including its facilities is poor.

The major works to be carried out before starting the flying include checking 1,500 hours/3 years of airframe, overhaul of the complete engine, and procuring the Hansa-3 aircraft which were earlier allotted to the club.
Addressing a press conference, Bikrom Singha Lahkar, honorary secretary of the Flying Club Revival Committee said that practically no work had been done in matters relating to fund and finance, which would be taken up with the Chief Minister at the governing body meeting.
“The Chief Minister, who is also the president of the revival committee, is likely to call the meet in the second week of November. Based on the outcome of the meeting, we will chalk out the next course of action,” Lahkar said.
