Good news: Airlines on hiring spree

Mumbai: Looking to expand operations in India, several airlines are on a hiring spree. This comes as good news for pilots and crew members, many of whom lost their jobs due to the rough patch the aviation industry faced over the past two years.

The trend seems significant in view of Tuesday’s report released by aircraft manufacturer Airbus, which claimed India will lead the world in domestic growth in aviation sector over the next two decades.

Jet Airways and its Gulf-based partner Etihad Airways are among the leading airlines who are hiring. Etihad recently completed several rounds of interviews in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. According to the airline officials, more than 1,000 cabin crew aspirants applied, and around 200 were picked. The airline is planning to triple its frequency from Mumbai and Delhi. “There was a rush of candidates during the interview process,” said a reliable source.
