Govt takes back 'bad words' on tribals

Mumbai: A day after saying that tribal women could not get jobs in aviation sector because of their rural manners and below-average looks, the state government on Friday went into damage-control mode.
It not only apologised for “hurting sentiments” but also clarified that all tribal women who were trained for the field were capable of getting jobs in the sector.
“The tribal women are capable of getting the jobs. In fact, four of them were recruited in Air Deccan and one each in Jet Airways and Air India. When they completed the training, there was recession in the aviation industry and many companies cut the jobs. When the recession will over the remaining tribal women will also get jobs,” minister of state for tribal development Padmakar Walvi said in the legislative council.
He expressed apology if “sentiments of anyone have been hurt due to someone’s remarks”.
BJP Sanjay Kelkar had raised objection to a statement reportedly made by civil aviation minister Praful Patel that the tribal women did not get jobs in the aviation industry because they were not beautiful.
